Garden gala this Saturday

The library’s fund-raiser, Moonlight in the Garden, begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, with beautiful garden-like settings donated by Young’s Nurseries. Cocktails in the transformed courtyards and a silent auction will greet guests, followed by dinner, jazz accompaniment by the Rex Cadwallader Trio, and a live auction. The fund-raiser is an important evening for the library, which has a goal of raising $70,000 to fund collections, programs and technology. The lead sponsor for the event is The Wilton Bank, with Ryan Partnership and Gregory & Adams also providing support. Thanks to the community response, the event is sold out. Donations are always gratefully accepted. To contribute, please contact Anne Rowlands at 762-3950 ext. 216.

Brubecks rock the room

The Brubeck Brothers Quartet headlines the Hot & Cool: Jazz at the Brubeck Room on Sunday, May 18 at 4 p.m. An exciting jazz group featuring two members of one of America’s most accomplished musical families, Dan Brubeck (drums,) and Chris Brubeck (bass and trombone) make up half of the foursome. Guitarist Mike DeMicco, and pianist Chuck Lamb, complete this dynamic quartet. A reception will follow the performance. Hot & Cool: Jazz at the Brubeck Room is funded by the William and Karen Tell Foundation with special thanks to Ed and Catherine Romer. Advance registration is strongly recommended and pre-registrants must arrive by 3:50 p.m. to be guaranteed seating. After 3:50 p.m., and if space is available, wait-listed and walk-in registrants will be admitted. Suggested donation for the evening is $10 per person. To register: www.wiltonlibrary.org/events or call 762-3950.

Computer classes

Intermediate Excel classes are being held this week with the library’s computer guru Mary Anne Franco. The classes are on Tuesday, May 20, from 6:30–8 p.m. and again on Tuesday, May 22, from 12:30–2 p.m. Both classes cover the same material. Participants learn how to format spreadsheets and create graphs. Basic computer skills are required, including mouse proficiency. There is no charge. Because the hands-on classes are limited in size to 10 people, advance registration is required. Participants are asked to arrive on time. Students will not be allowed in 10 minutes after the classes start, so as not to disrupt the other attendees and the flow of the classes. To register: www.wiltonlibrary.org/events or call 762-3950.

Native plants discussed

Gardening consultant and design expert David Sanders presents The Benefits of Using Native Plants in Suburban Gardens and Landscapes on Tuesday, May 20, from 7–8:30 p.m. He explores using native plants to combat weeds and other pests, permitting a reduction in the use of fertilizer and pesticides. A question and answer period follows the slide presentation. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is recommended. To register: www.wiltonlibrary.org/events or call 762-3950.
