Learning about the Internet

Mary Anne Franco helps people who are just starting out on the computer with Basic Internet hands-on classes on Tuesday, June 3 from 6:30–8 p.m., and again on Thursday, June 5, from 12:30–2 p.m. People can learn rudimentary skills for surfing the net in this fun, interactive class. There are no prerequisites for the classes and no charges. Advance registration is required as the class sizes are limited to 10 students. Participants are asked to arrive on time. So as not to interrupt the flow of the lessons, students will not be allowed in 10 minutes after the classes start. To register for either class: www.wiltonlibrary.org/events or call 762-3950.

Teens show films

For the fifth consecutive year, Wilton High School Video Production students have assembled their best works to be viewed by the public. The Wilton High School Film Festival takes place in the library’s Brubeck Room on Wednesday, June 4, from 7:30–8:30 p.m. The festival is co-sponsored by the library and Wilton High School. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is suggested. To register: www.wiltonlibrary.org/events or call 762-3950.

Flowers blooming in June

The library’s June art exhibition promises to be an explosion of flowers and plants with “Behind the Blossoms: Six Views of Botanical Art” opening on Friday, June 6, from 6–7:30 p.m. The botanical artists, all instructors at The New York Botanical Gardens, represent well more than 100 years experience in interpreting nature and have spent countless hours in creating highly accurate and detailed representations of plant life. The artists are Carol E. Hamilton (Wilton, CT), Lauretta Jones (Purdys, NY), Kathie K. Miranda (Shelton, CT), Dick Rauh, Ph.D (Wilton, CT), Louisa Rawle Tiné (South Salem, NY) and the late Eleanor Wunderlich (Ossining, NY). The exhibit runs through Saturday, June 28. Proceeds from the sale of the artworks will benefit the library.

Jazz pianist Eigsti returns

Taylor Eigsti, a two-time Grammy award nominee, returns to Wilton Library’s Hot & Cool: Jazz at the Brubeck Room series on Sunday, June 8, at 5 p.m. The 22-year-old pianist/composer/bandleader’s sound is rooted in jazz history, but it also incorporates the progressive jazz sound of the 21st century. A reception will follow the hour-long performance. The Hot & Cool: Jazz at the Brubeck Room series is funded by William and Karen Tell Foundation with special thanks to Ed and Catherine Romer. Registration is highly recommended due to the popularity of the performer and the event. Pre-registrants must arrive by 4:50 p.m. to be guaranteed seating. After 4:50 p.m., and if space is available, wait-listed and walk-in registrants will be admitted. The suggested donation for the event is $10 per person. To register: www.wiltonlibrary.org/events or call 762-3950.

Reminder: The library is closed on Sunday and Monday, May 25 and 26 for the Memorial Day observance.
