June in bloom

“Behind the Blossoms: Six Views of Botanical Art,” the library’s June art show, opens tomorrow evening, June 6, from 6–7:30. The exhibition is a representation of six artists with more than 100 years experience in interpreting nature. The six artists are Carol E. Hamilton and Dick Rauh of Wilton, Kathie Miranda from Shelton, Lauretta Jones from Purdy’s, Louisa Rawle Tiné from South Salem and the late Eleanor Wunderlich from Ossining, NY. All of the artists have been instructors at The New York Botanical Garden. The reception and the exhibition are open to the public. Most of the pieces are available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library. The show is open through Friday, June 27.

Jazz pianist Taylor Eigsti returns

The library’s Hot & Cool: Jazz at the Brubeck Room series heats up again with the progressive jazz sound of pianist Taylor Eigsti, returning on Sunday, June 8, at 5 p.m. The concert will be followed by a reception. The artist, fresh from a newly-released CD, “Let it Come to You,” will perform selections from his extensive repertoire that includes traditional jazz influences along with hip-hop, funk and “free feels.” The jazz series is made possible by the William and Karen Tell Foundation with special thanks to Ed and Catherine Romer. Advance registration is strongly recommended due to the popularity of both the artist and the jazz series. Pre-registrants must arrive by 4:50 to be guaranteed seating. After 4:50 and if seats are available, wait-listed and walk-ins will be admitted. The suggested donation for the event is $10 per person. To register: www.wiltonlibrary.org/events or call 762-3950.

The classes are free of charge. Basic computer skills are required. Students arriving 10 minutes after the classes begin will not be allowed in, so as to minimize disruption in the teaching process.
